Your fans are your foundation. Strategic promotion is what builds that foundation!
But what exactly is strategy?
In simple terms, strategy is a well laid out plan that helps you get from point A to Point B.
But it’s a lot deeper than that.
The other day an artist came to me for advice. Once he told me what he wanted to accomplish. I asked what his strategy was.
And he send me a document that looked something like this. with about 30 bullet points.
- Send my music to blogs
- - Post my music on my fan page
- - Share my links in music groups
- - Put my music on itunes, apple music, etc..
and so on…
This is something I see a lot of artists do. They write out a list of things that they have to do and call it a strategy. That isn’t a strategy. That’s a to do list.
Real strategy lays out every detail of how to actually get your to do list done.
If you’re gonna share your links in music groups.
Then you have to create multiple types of posts and each post should say something different.
You have to know what to say and how to say it so that people will actually listen to your music.
Then you have to set up specific times to post each one
Then you have to know how to deal with people when they have questions or comments, whether it be positive or negative.
And if they choose to listen to your music? Then what? Where does that music take them? Will they just listen to the song and never come back?
That’s what real strategy is all about. You have to plan every step of the PROCESS to ensure success. You have to be ready for every possibility. One thing leads to the next and you have to figure out what to do for every step.
